    LATAR BELAKANG PUTRAJAYA

    Kerajaan Malaysia memulakan pencarian tapak Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan yang baru pada tahun 1980an supaya sebahagian pembangunan Kuala Lumpur dapat diselerakkan.  Satu tapak di Perang Besar, Daerah Sepang yang terletak di lokasi strategik di antara Kuala Lumpur dan Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) telah dipilih untuk tujuan tersebut. Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan ini telah dinamakan sempena Perdana Menteri Malaysia yang pertama, YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

    Putrajaya akan memainkan peranan sebagai Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan yang baru, manakala Kuala Lumpur akan kekal sebagai ibu negara serta pusat utama kewangan dan perdagangan.

    Pelaksanaan pembangunan bandar baru ini telah bermula pada Ogos 1995. Sekiranya bandar ini dibangunkan sepenuhnya, Putrajaya akan menawarkan sejumlah 64,000 unit perumahan yang dapat menampung keperluan lebih kurang 320,000 penduduk.

    Lokasi

    Putrajaya yang mempunyai keluasan 4,931 hektar terletak dalam lingkungan Koridor Raya Multimedia (MSC) yang strategik. Ia terletak di lokasi 25km ke selatan Kuala Lumpur dan 20km ke utara Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur (KLIA). Amat mudah untuk ke sana dari pelbagai lokasi di negeri ini dengan kemudahan jaringan lebuh raya yang tersedia.

    Bandar Dalam Taman

    Putrajaya dibangunkan berasaskan tema “Bandar Dalam Taman”. Sejumlah 38 peratus daripada jumlah keseluruhan kawasan Putrajaya telah dibangunkan untuk kegunaan taman, tasik dan wetland, Manakala kawasan selebihnya meliputi kegunaan pejabat-pejabat. Tasik buatan berkeluasan 600 hektar yang merentangi di bahagian tengah bandar ini merupakan ciri-ciri landskap yang utama dan berperanan mengimbangi keadaan cuaca di Putrajaya. Pada masa kini, aktiviti seperti menaiki bot, berkayak dan memancing dibenarkan di kawasan tasik.

    Bandar Bestari

    Putrajaya yang terletak di Koridor Raya Multimedia akan dibangunkan sebagai sebuah bandar pintar yang selaras dengan inisiatif e-Kerajaan. Kemudahan-kemudahan yang dilengkapi dengan Teknologi Multimedia akan membolehkan perhubungan dan interaksi antara pejabat-pejabat Kerajaan serta antara Kerajaan dengan peniaga, penduduk tempatan dan pihak awam.
