History IIUM

The founding of IIUM was first proposed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, during a visit to the United Arab Emirates in January 1982. On January 12, 1982, the Prime Minister, in a meeting with Datuk Amar Dr. Sulaiman Daud, the Director-General of Education, Tan Sri Dato’ Hj. Murad bin Mohd. Nor, and senior civil servants and officials from local universites, formalized the decision. A committee made up of vice-chancellors, senior officers of the Ministery of Education, and representatives from the Prime Minister’s department was the formed. The initial concept paer was prepared by Tan Sri Prof. Dr. Kamal Hassan, and it was accepted after deliberation by the Ministry of Education and approved by the Prime Minister on February, 12, 198. Eventually, Dato’ Dr. Ariffin Suhaimi, who later became deputy rector- cum-acting rector at IIUM, was made chairman of the coordinating committee and project coordinator. Tan Sri Prof. Dr. Kamal Hassan was made a member of the curriculum committee which included the high profile personality who was then in the Ministry of Education, Dato’ Dr. Abdul Hamid Othman.

Establishment Order

On may 20, 1983, the International Islamic University Malaysia received the Establishment Order from His Majesty, the King, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin al-Mu’adzam Shah, after diplomatic notes and co-sponsorship were exchanged between the Malaysian goverment and Bangladesh, Egypt, Libya, Maldives, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC)

The university was formed and incorporated according to the Companies Act (1965) on May, 10, 1982 at which thr Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association were accepted as the constitution of the University and the name “The International Islamic University Malaysia” established.

AKTA LPPKN

Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara, LPPKN,  telah ditubuhkan di bawah Akta Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga 1966 [Akta 352] dan diletakkan di bawah Jabatan Perdana Menteri.  Pada peringkat awal penubuhannya fokus utama LPPKN adalah melaksanakan program dan aktiviti perancangan keluarga di negara ini. Akta Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga 1966 (Akta 352) yang dahulunya dikenali sebagai Akta Perancang Keluarga 1966 (Akta 42) telah mengalami beberapa pindaan dan semakan sejak ia diwartakan pada tahun 1966.


Pindaan pertama telah dibuat pada tahun 1976 manakala pindaan kedua dibuat pada tahun 1984. Pindaan kedua ini melibatkan pertukaran nama akta daripada Akta Perancang Keluarga kepada Akta Penduduk dan Keluarga. Sejajar dengan perubahan ini, nama LPPKN yang dahulunya dikenali sebagai Lembaga Perancang Keluarga Negara telah ditukar menjadi Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara. Dengan pertukaran nama ini, peranan LPPKN telah diperluaskan daripada semata-mata penyampaian perkhidmatan perancangan keluarga kepada perspektif penduduk dan pembangunan sosioekonomi yang lebih luas.

Majlis Perbandaran Muar yang suatu ketika dahulu di kenali sebagai Majlis Daerah Muar Selatan (Di bawah Akta Kerajaan Tempatan, peruntukan peruntukan sementara 1973) merangkumi 17 buah mukim yang sehingga kini di duduki hampir 230, 000 orang penduduk pelbagai etnik.

Mengenai FELDA

Lembaga Kemajuan Tanah Persekutuan (FELDA) telah ditubuhkan pada 1 Julai 1956 di bawah Ordinan Kemajuan Tanah 1956 untuk pembangunan tanah dan penempatan semula dengan objektif pembasmian kemiskinan melalui penanaman tanaman minyak sawit dan getah. Pada tahun 1990, FELDA tidak lagi membuat pengambilan peneroka baru. Kerajaan telah memberi kepercayaan kepada FELDA untuk berdiri dengan kewangan sendiri dan menjadi sebuah badan berkanun yang boleh menjana pendapatan sendiri untuk menyokong pelbagai perkembangan melalui pelbagai perniagaannya. Sehubungan itu, mulai tahun 1994 kerajaan tidak lagi menyalurkan apa-apa peruntukan kepada FELDA. Sebagai usaha menjana pendapatan, FELDA telah melancarkan beberapa entiti korporat swasta terutamanya untuk memastikan rantaian nilai yang lengkap aktiviti terasnya. Antara yang terbesar adalah koperasi Permodalan FELDA (Koperasi FELDA), FELDA Global Ventures (FGV) dan FELDA Investment Corporation (FIC).

Hari ini, FELDA terus menjalankan peranan utama dengan menyediakan kemudahan yang mencukupi dan moden di rancangan FELDA, memastikan generasi peneroka seterusnya berpendidikan tinggi untuk meningkatkan sosio ekonomi dan kualiti hidup mereka seterusnya memastikan rancangan FELDA dapat menjana pelbagai aktiviti ekonomi di samping merapatkan jurang antara bandar dan kawasan bandar kecil.
